Josephinenhütte Wins International Design Award 2022

The JOSEPHINE Collection is awarded the Gold prize in "Home Interior Products / Kitchen Accessories / Tabletop".

We are proud to announce that Josephinenhütte has won the International Design Award in the Home Interior Products/Tabletop category. The award was announced on January 10th, during a ceremony held in Los Angeles.

“Driven by the vision of finding the ultimate shape, Kurt Josef Zalto invested years in developing this entirely new glass form,” reads the award text. “The Josephine is a handcrafted wine glass that is equally compelling in both visual and sensory terms. The unique design of this lightweight glass features a distinctive kink which allows the wine to release its flavor and bouquet quickly and intensively.”

I find the valuation standard “Impact” particularly noteworthy, for this is about the benefits that a user or society experiences from the design being evaluated. To provide the wine lover with the most pleasurable experience, Kurt Josef Zalto’s designs always focus on functionality first. The influence our glasses have had internationally in such a short time never ceases to overwhelm me. The feedback from winemakers, sommeliers, restaurateurs, and wine lovers is fantastic.

The International Design Awards is one of the most prestigious events in the design industry, with participants from nearly 80 countries competing in five different disciplines: Architecture, Interior, Product, Graphic and Fashion Design. The competition recognizes outstanding design and innovation in the industry.

This is already the 5th design award for Josephinenhütte, including Red Dot, Iconic Award, GQ Home Award, House Beautiful Award.

This recognition is a true highlight for me and motivates me to continue designing glassware. It is a reminder that in today's fast-paced world, sometimes the best things take time to develop. My vision for the JOSEPHINE collection was to create a wine glass that truly enhances the aromas of a wine like no other. After many years of experimentation and fine-tuning, I am thrilled to see that both the design and wine world have responded so positively to this unique form.
